Otvoreno je 1974. godine kao multikonfesionalno. Svojim idejno-oblikovnim re\u0161enjem i re\u017eimom kori\u0161\u0107enja predstavlja specifi\u010dan komunalni objekat u zemlji sa svim neophodnim sadr\u017eajima, kao \u0161to su: upravna zgrada, kapela, opro\u0161tajna dvorana, krematorijum, prodajno-izlo\u017ebeni salon pogrebne opreme i kamena, ku\u0107a za da\u0107e i pomene, arhiv, radionice i magacinski prostor.<\/p><p>Prostire se na oko 80 hektara. Kako bi se gra\u0111anima olak\u0161ala poseta udaljenijim grobnim poljima, uveden je organizovan prevoz slu\u017ebenim vozilom. Projektom je predvi\u0111ena etapna izgradnja grobnih polja. Groblje je pejza\u017eno projektovano sa visokom zastupljeno\u0161\u0107u zelenila. Zelene povr\u0161ine groblja u Novom Sadu, kao povr\u0161ine specijalne namene, ovde imaju dominantnu higijensko-zdravstvenu, i dekorativno-estetsku ulogu. \u010cine 40% ukupne povr\u0161ine. Sva grobna polja obezbe\u0111ena su infrastrukturom vodovodne, kanalizacione i putne mre\u017ee, sa zadovoljavaju\u0107im stepenom arhitektonskog ure\u0111enja.<\/p><p>Na Gradskom groblju ure\u0111eni su prostori za grobnice i ure\u0111ene parcele sa spomenicima. Na ovim ure\u0111enim parcelama, popularno nazvanim \u201cameri\u010dke\u201d, spomenici su jednoobrazni, od prirodnog i ve\u0161ta\u010dkog kamena i bez humki.<\/p><p>U sastavu Gradskog groblja nalazi se Spomen-groblje palih boraca Narodnooslobodila\u010dkog rata 1941-1945. godine, Aleja narodnih heroja i istaknutih revolucionara i Aleja i grobnice narodnih heroja.<\/p><p>Grobljem upravlja
